Mothers have a common that they cannot produce enough milk?

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

How common is this fear? Let’s look at some statistics that Ohio University discovered in a study. In 2002, 69 percent of mothers breastfed at least once before leaving the hospital.  However, 53 percent of those mothers gave their babies formula at the one-week mark and 68 percent turned to formula after one month. Only 5 percent of mothers still breastfed after one year.

Most common reason given by mothers all over the world for introducing supplementary milk early or even terminating breastfeeding her baby, is the belief that she does not have enough milk for her baby .

Too often, relatives, friends or health workers suggest to the mother that she may not have enough milk. They undermine the mother’s confidence in her ability to meet the baby’s need. They may ask,    “is your baby getting enough?” this is enough to worry many mothers so much that their milk production falls off and their babies don’t get enough!

Our goal at GBP is to help mothers deal with the problem of ‘’Not Enough Milk” and we how can  help mothers to overcome their problem.

To begin with, new mothers are frequently exhausted.  The first night the baby sleeps for an extended period of time, the worn out mom gets her first much needed rest.  If the next night the baby sleeps again, new mom does so as well.  Next thing you know, it the new mom’s milk production lowers.  Her confidence falls.  Breastfeeding and breast pumping is not as easy as formula.  Family, friends, and other advisors say things that make the new mother feel less confident.  Quickly, the new mom fixes the first bottle and the rest is history.

The real problem was giving up those night feedings. Eliminating night-feeding leads to less prolactin production and hence, reduced milk supply.  Comments from others that undermine the new mom’s confidence do not help.  Lack of confidence added to low prolactin hormone levels will add up to lower milk production.

Once a week, its okay to take the night off.  But, maintaining milk supply requires hormones.  The hormone prolactin falls off if night feedings are neglected.

The Big Fix:

1.      Add two night feedings for several days in a row, you’ll be amazed with the amount of milk you will produce at the first morning feedings.

2.      Have the confidence that you can produce enough milk for your baby

3.      Get a herbal supplement (a galactagogue) to help increase your milk supply fast.

4.      Call us or email at GotBreastPump.com for help, support or just a kind word.  We love helping moms feed their babies.

We hope we can help mothers start feeding and continue feeding breastmilk to their babies, for as long as possible.

GotBreastPump.com is Now Making Videos to Help Our Customers, Check Us Out

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Last week, Wendy and I started making videos of some of the products that we sell on our website, GotBreastPump.com. It is so funny to make these videos.  Neither of us have any experience, other than watching a few videos from YouTube.

Here are 2 of the first videos. Scroll down on the page to see the videos.

http://gotbreastpump.com/store/Easy_Expression_Hands_Free_Breast_Pump_Bra_Bustier.htm

Wendy’s living room sofa is our video spot, no studios for us.  It’s homey and relaxed and if we make a mistake, we either cut it or just leave it in.  We are sure that Francis Ford Coppola will not be checking us out anytime soon.

Our goal is to give information in an easy to use and relaxed format.  Customers have asked us questions about some of our products and those questions are the basis for what we put in the videos.

Our little Gabrielle is always curious and often in Wendy’s lap or playing in the background, talking or messing with the dogs.  All this activity makes the videos all the more realistic and down to Earth.

We have fun, work hard and share information and products to help mothers feed their babies.  That’s what we are about at GotBreastPump.com.

Thanks for visiting with us and come back often.  Also, send comments and questions, we’d love to hear from you.

Don’t Panic when Your Breastmilk Supply Changes, GBP can Help is Several Ways.

Monday, October 27th, 2008

Welcome lactating ladies,

Have you had that momentary panic, when you noticed, “My milk supply has changed?”  Many factors contribute to milk supply problems. At GotBreastPump.com, we have a list of 10 Ways to Increase Breast Milk Supply.

Some of GBP’s suggestions are about breast milk enhancers. If you have tried adding extra rest, water, and pumping or feedings sessions and had little success, it may be time to consider using a galactagogue. Galactagogues are a wonderful tool when used in a holistic approach to increasing breastmilk supply.

Yes, breast pumping and breastfeeding can be frustrating, at times – for both mother and baby – when breast milk production is low, as is often the case.

It is understood, that breast milk is nature’s perfect food for your baby – it contains just the right amount of easily digested protein, sugar, fat, and water to support healthy physical and mental development. The average breastmilk baby visits the doctor less often for digestive and respiratory conditions.

And for mom, producing breastmilk can consume those extra calories that make it easier to return to your pre-pregnancy weight. Breastmilk production has potential birth control effects and returns organs that were displaced during pregnancy back to normal function and placement more quickly.

Yes, breast pumping and breastfeeding can be frustrating, at times – for both mother and baby – when breast milk production is low, as is often the case.

Most mothers find increased milk production after taking More Milk Plus Vegetarian Capsules occurs within the first 2-3 days after beginning supplementation, with full effectiveness attained within 2 weeks. Often, once milk flow has been successfully established, a mother is able to stop taking the capsules. More Milk Capsules are a safe and effective galactagogue formula designed to quickly increase breast milk for breastfeeding mothers. This product does not contain any milk, dairy, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, or gluten. Not for use during pregnancy.

The most stressful job in the world may actually belong to you, breastfeeding and breast pumping mom.

Friday, October 24th, 2008

Motherhood can throw even the most prepared women a few curve balls. That’s why experts around the world know the importance of a good support system. But even the strongest spouse or family and friends can’t protect you from every trying situation.

Some stress is inevitable, yet there are times when life’s events seem overwhelming. Postpartum hormone imbalance or depression causes a great deal of stress for the new mother and her family. While loss of appetite, inability to sleep and moodiness are all very publicized symptoms of being “stressed out,” nursing mothers need to be aware of how stress can affect the nuts and bolts of breastfeeding.

The Cause

New parents are often taken by surprise at how demanding this new little person is of their time,” says Carol McShane, a lactation consultant in Elkhorn, Wis. “How this impacts the breastfeeding relationship varies from mother to mother, depending on how well she is able to adapt to various levels of stress in her life. The most common thing we see is a decrease in milk supply, along with a feeling of frustration on the part of the mother because the baby nurses so frequently. Stress can also inhibit the milk ejection reflex or ‘let-down.’”

Karen Cebenka, of Delaware City, Del., knows this all too well. After her son was born, Cebenka returned to nursing school. Juggling the demands of home and classroom, she spent her lunches pumping breast milk. With one hand holding the pump and the other hand holding her lunch, Cebenka spent one half-hour each afternoon trying to extract as much milk as possible. “I was always stressed about producing enough milk,” Cebenka says. “I will never forget the one time … another student was also pumping, and we went into the room together. She had the same pump. She pulled that pump down and filled it in minutes. It took me a half-hour to get half of what she got in minutes.”

The Cure

“Because everyone deals with stress in varying ways, as well as the fact that some people have better coping mechanisms in place, prior to the birth of the baby, the situation causing the stress may seem minor to outsiders,” McShane says. “Then again, some women’s milk supply will not be affected even when there is an event of great magnitude that has occurred.”

Without question, breast feeding and breast pumping mothers need a support system during stressful situations to avoid low milk supply.  If you are away from family, find a La Leche League group or ask the hospital where you had your baby for a local breastfeeding and/or breast pumping group. Don’t suffer with stress or effects of postpartum alone.

Busy Breast Pumping Moms, Here’s a Great Solution!

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Few people on the planet are busier than a working mother who is breast pumping her breast milk for her baby.  Juggling home, job, and a new baby may be the most difficult time in any women’s life.  A new mother who is breast pumping struggles to find the time to feed her baby, keep house, work a job and still get minimal rest.

One great solution is a Hands Free Breast Pump Bustier or Halter.  A mother can be breast pumping at the office and answering emails or making phone calls, or bookkeeping.  At home, Mom can be folding clothes, relaxing, paying bills, reading, or studying.

Hands free Bustiers and Halters give time back to the busy mother.  Check out our website store for more information on Hands Free Bustiers & Halters.  Watch our video.

Happy customers say,

This product is so great – I started using it when I went back to work, but wish I had purchased it when I was still at home with the baby. I am able to type on the computer, be on the phone with clients and pump all simultaneously. Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU!!”

“Wendy, thank you, this hands free pumping bra is great! You’re able to read, massage your breast to help get your milk flowing, and tend to your baby while your pumping. I usually have  Mia on her activity mat while I pump right next to her and can reach her, if I need to… This is a MUST have for those who are pumping! I received the bra VERY quickly, too… I only wish I had ordered it sooner!! It’s great!! Good luck!”

Our Gabrielle is with Us Everyday

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Running a business with a 3 year old around is a bit like riding a roller coaster.   Gabrielle will play sweetly while we are doing our individual jobs.  We talk with her and watch while she rolls her balls of play dough. One of us will take time out and go for a walk so she can ride her bike or pick clover flowers for the house.

One of her favorite activities is watering the plants.  Of course, she waters the brick on the house, her shoes, and all other items in squirting distance.  She would water all day long if we let her.

The dogs are happy to have a toddler around the house.  They are very fond of Gabrielle’s snacks and lunch.  If she turns around, one of the dogs will take advantage of her yummy morsels.  With the little one at home all the time, we may need to get the dogs to obedience school.  But, that will come when more time is available, probably when our girl goes to preschool.  Then it will be a moot point.

Another one of the things Gabrielle is really fond of is helping us put the packages in the buckets to go to the Post Office.  She has become a favorite at the local Post Office.  She likes sitting on the counter top while the folks behind the counter check in the packages.  She always gets a smile and a sweet word.

Gabrielle just loves digging in the dirt.  So Wendy and I have learned to love mud pies.  She has salso planted a few pecans in her little mud hole and wonders why they haven’t already grown into trees.

How wondrous to have our little peach remind us of the innocence of a young mind that is so curious about this big ol’ world.

Saving Money is a Family Affair at GotBreastPump.com

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

Wendy and I are taking huge steps to save money, like everyone else, during this economic train wreck. Yes, our sales have been impacted.  We love our work and have been working for years now with no salaries.  We allocate all money back into the company, like most small businesses do in their early years.

We are cutting back on expenses in the family budget as well.  Our breastmilk baby, Gabrielle, is now at home, instead of at daycare.  Wendy and I are working a lot harder.

While one of us is packing orders and tracking inventory, the other is tending Gabrielle.  Our busy little bee, requires considerable attention.  Three year olds like to climb and hide.  Wow, what a workout.

We are shopping for educational toys and yard toys at Goodwill. After that, we shop at the serious discount stores.  Saving money is the order of the day.

The work Wendy and I do is all about the passion.  Passion for helping mothers feed their babies, passion for family.

Dad and big brother Seth are going camping with Boy Scouts this weekend. That’s inexpensive too.

The whole family is saving money.  Life is good.  We have learned a whole new appreciation for the things we have, especially each other.

Save Money, Save Money, Mother’s Milk WILL Save Money!!!!!

Save $4,120 in Baby’s 1st Year

No more beatin’ ‘round the bush!  Family budgets are stressed out!

Money is tight and families must find ways to save money.  Breastfeeding and breast pumping mother’s milk for your baby will save money in several important ways.

Starting your baby on breastmilk saves money in the most obvious way, the cost of formula. This first and most apparent savings can really reduce the family budget by a large sum of money.  Most c calculations of the expense of baby formula for one year of a baby’s life is based on the national average cost of one ounce of formula, 15 cents per ounce. In one year, the average baby will consume 10,800 ounces of milk. That is a total cost of 1,620 for formula for the first year.

But, let’s consider the really important number in the dollar savings to a family, if their baby gets mother’s milk instead of formula. The health benefits of breastmilk are exceptional.  $2,500 is the savings to the average family for the additional health costs of formula fed babies, based on a study by the by the American Association of Pediatrics.

Formula fed babies visit the doctor twice as often for respiratory illness, ear infection, and gastrointestinal illness, than breastmilk fed babies.  Formula fed babies have 20% more doctor’s office visits.

Total cost of all those doctor visits is $2,500 per year for each child. Any family that reviews these costs would have a hard time feeding their baby formula based on this knowledge.

Considering these two expenses alone, a family can save $$4,120in one year if they feed their baby breastmilk and not formula.

The health advantages that mothers can enjoy through breastfeeding and breast pumping includes, reduced risk of various cancers, and psychological benefits. The physical and mental health savings are range from a few thousand dollars to huge sums in a life time.

The time is now, Moms and Dads.  Save those dollars. Breast pumping and breastfeeding is best for baby, best for Mom and best for Family.
