new mom feeding breast milk breastmilkPostpartum and Breastmilk Mom - What you put in your mouth makes a difference to both you and your new baby.

Think of how much your body has gone through during pregnancy. And also consider how stressful giving birth has been to your body. Add to that, the changes in life style and lack of rest, “Wow”, that’s a lot of adjustment.

So you can see how super important getting good nutrition and trying to get as much rest as possible, that this new life style will allow.  By the way, you are also making milk for your baby. Your poor body has undergone so many changes and you truly need to recover from all those changes.

Eating good (healthy) food, loaded with vitamins and minerals, will make sure that you and your baby are getting everything you need.

Only in Hollywood (and fantasy worlds) do mothers drop the baby weight in a month and fit in their bikini.  Normal moms need time to heal and feed their new angel.  This is not the time to go on a super diet. In the real world, women lose the extra weight slowly over the first year for feeding their new little person and to exert lots of extra energy taking care of a new baby and physically healing.

Since you are producing breastmilk, really pump up the fluids. You’ll most likely have a lot more thirst. Keep your big water bottle full of water, juice or favorite drink and even some healthy snacks next to your bed or breastfeeding chair. The Mayo Clinic suggests that a mother producing breast milk needs to drink between 10 and 13 eight (8) ounce glasses of water.

The really big deal is to take good care of yourself.  Your physical and mental well being makes a difference in your life, your new baby’s life and your whole family.

Accept help whenever it is offered, and steal rest anytime you can.  You need it and your deserve it, New Mom.
